Tenth-ranked Castle had six winners Dec. 31 as the Knights eked past No. 13 Yorktown for the team title of the Mooresville Holiday Classic. Castle totaled 271.5 points to squeeze past Yorktown (266.5), which had five champions.
The key match of the tournament came at 145 pounds, where eighth-ranked Castle senior Preston Richard upset No. 5 senior Jordan Dulaney of Yorktown, 7-4. Had the outcome followed the rankings, that’s at least a six-point swing and the difference in the team title.
Yorktown’s third-ranked 152-pound senior, Kyle Mosier, had the most wins by fall in the least amount of time (four in 6:50) en route to being named the meet’s outstanding wrestler.
